Born in New York City on March 28, 1918, Pierre Kolisch received his B.A. degree from Columbia University in 1939. He graduated from Cornell Law School (LL.B.) in 1942.
For the next three years, he saw action as a naval officer in the Atlantic and Pacific operations of World War II. He started his law career in 1946, when he became a member of his father’s patent law firm in New York City. Pierre moved to Portland in 1952. He was admitted to the Oregon State Bar and started his own firm — which grew into what is now Kolisch Hartwell, P.C.
The principal emphasis of his practice was litigating cases involving intellectual property rights, and appellate practice in such cases, including argument of cases before the U.S. Supreme Court as well as in other courts throughout the country.
In addition to holding offices and serving on the boards of various cultural and educational institutions, Pierre was the Honorary French Consul for Oregon and President of the Oregon Patent Law Association. He was a member of the Multnomah Bar Association, the Oregon State Bar, and the American Intellectual Property and Oregon Patent Law Associations. He was registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Kolisch passed away March 1, 2008 at his home in Portland, Oregon.
